Dream CCXXVII
I was living in a small town near a mountain range. Part of my job was to drive a truck across the mountains as part of a pick-up/delivery routine.
One day I took the truck along the route
and I could tell there was something different--a kind of tension in the
air.  People were talking vaguely about "last night."  I didn't give it
much thought and started on my way.
About half
way, I came to a more level area.  There were a couple of police around
looking warily.  A short lady came up to the truck and told me I needed
to turn around, but she wouldn't tell me why.  I thought about it for a
few minutes, and decided I'd risk it, so I just barreled along my
route.  Behind me I could see the people were frantic about something,
but I saw no danger so I didn't worry about it.
After
a couple of miles, I got extremely tired, and then blanked out
completely.  I was in a state of complete blackness, but I didn't feel
worried.
After a while, I came to, sitting in a
chair in what looked like a large foyer in a mansion or school.
Something told me I shouldn't look around much, so I kept my head down.
There was a kind of oppressive fuzzyness all around me.
Vague
beings entered the room.  I only glanced at them furtively, stealing
quick looks.  They were brown in color, and their limbs had several
extra joints.  Their faces were just a series of bony plates sticking
outward, vaguely arranged in a face-like arrangement.
A
loud buzzing appeared in my mind, asking my name.  It then read out
three names, the last of which was mine.  So apparently they could
broadcast thoughts but couldn't read them.
Apparently
they had landed last night, and the authorities were trying to keep
folks out of their area.  They didn't seem hostile, but they radiated
an oppression that was depressing and dispiriting.  I was led to believe
that I might be returned someday.
A large
number of plates were brought in, containing large pieces of fried
and breaded meat.  I was told if I could arrange them so that they could
be carried and served, that would reflect well on me.
I looked at the meats.  I could not identify where they might have come from.
