Dream CLXX

I was in another part of the state, and I heard that my wife was ill.  I needed to investigate, but had no means of getting to her.  A car was out of the question, and I didn't have any money for air fare.

Then I realized that I could use a mixture of telepathy and clairvoyance to travel mentally to where she was.  After several attempts, I hit upon a central idea:  that as long as I didn't take any facts or data with me, then one place would be just the same as any other place, and I could easily transport myself from where I was to where I wanted to be.

So, I concentrated, and after a while, I was able to manifest myself near my wife.  She was surprised to see me, but was pleased that I was inquiring after her.  As it turned out, she only had a touch of the flu but was otherwise fine.  We walked around in the garden for a while, getting each other up to speed on what various other family members were doing.

She mentioned that one relative had recently been quite ill, and in fact had passed away not too long ago.

She asked me how I was able to be there with her, and I explained my theory of mental travel.  She was somewhat skeptical, so we agreed to a test.  I explained to her why I could not carry facts or data with me when I traveled, so I asked her to call me and tell me, in specific terms, "[relative] has died recently, it happened on the [date]."  The specific phrasing would prove to her that I was actually with her right now, and the phrase would trigger my own memory when she spoke it to me.

I then left, and turned my attention to the data problem.  If there was a way of bringing data along with the mind, it could revolutionize many things in the world.

I turned to look at the phone, waiting for it to ring.  I knew it would ring very soon.

The phone rang, and I reached toward it.
