Dream XXIV

I was outside with a couple of friends at night. I found a silver flashlight, and turned it on and aimed it at the Moon. To my surprise, the beam was powerful enough to illuminate the Moon's surface; I played the beam around the Moon's face, turning the light this way and that, and circling the edge of the disk.

Suddenly, vast explosions of dust appeared on the Moon's edges; soon, that entire area of the sky was one vast dust cloud, with occasional explosions still visible within.

I knew I had done this, using the flashlight. From time to time, the Moon's disk would appear through holes in the cloud, and while it was impossible to be certain, I thought I could see that the surface had been changed from its familiar look. I worried about whether the Moon would be entirely destroyed, and what effect that would have on the world.

Oh man, I thought. I am in big trouble now.

Dream XXIII

I was resting on the couch, and I decided to leave my corporeal body so I could do some vacuuming. I used my small handvac and went over the carpet.

In the bedroom, there was a telephone stand with a printer on it. I reached around to vaccuum under the stand, but there was something there that wouldn't vacuum up. I moved myself so I could get a better look, and I saw what appeared to be a dead mouse.

Muttering about my cats, I tried to vacuum up the mouse with my hand vac, but it would not come up; then I realised that the mouse wasn't dead.

I removed the hand vac, and the mouse ran out the other side of the telephone stand. It ran until it reached the front door, then it ran outside. Now that it was outside, I could see that it was actually some kind of ferret. I knew that people kept ferrets as pets, so I grabbed it and held it, and walked over to one of my neighbors and asked her if she knew who owned the animal. She didn't, and then the animal squirmed out of my arms suddenly, and ran away down toward where the garbage bin was.

I followed, and the animal stopped and turned toward me, and opened its mouth wide. It didn't seem to be a threatening gesture, but I wondered if it was making a hissing sound. I couldn't hear, because I was listening to the stereo using wireless headphones.

Dream XXII

I was going to take a walk along a lake shore. I had a novel by John Wyndham, but rather than carry this with me, I placed it, opened to where I had stopped reading, on some slightly wet sand. I was a little worried that this wasn't good for the book, but thought that if the walk was quick enough it shouldn't make any difference.

Some young woman parked her car across from where I was, and walked along the same path I took.

Further along the shore, some middle aged men, dressed in shirts and ties, were trying to combine two floating wharves into one large one, so that their boats would be more accessable to either group. They were lashing the timbers together with ropes, though somewhat loosely so that the two halves of the super-wharf still floated a bit free of each other.

When we both returned to the cabin where the walk began, I wanted to wash my hands and went inside. As I was entering, I saw the young woman pick up my book. She placed it under her arm, walked over to her car, and drove away before I could decide how to react.

Dream XXI

A group of us were assigned to study the natal development in an ancient civilization.

We were all brought to an underground grotto, where part of this civilization once settled. The light was very soft and had a slight orange tint; the rock walls were also rust-colored, with veins of grey rock throughout.

The ruins we were to examine were fairly eroded and looked like simple stalagtites, but we were assured that they were columns from temples and such.

I was paired with a women who did not want to be there, and complained constantly about how this was inconveniencing her. But she was an authority on the subject, and had to come along.

We both went to one of the columns, where the base had been hollowed-out. The column itself was also hollow, and we crouched down and looked inside.

There was movement; some kind of animal was moving around inside. Because of the darkness inside the column, it was hard to see any details, but it appeared to be the size of a large rabbit and had light-colored fur.

"Anyone have a flashlight?" the woman asked. "I wonder what that is," she said, looking at the animal.

That's supposed to be your speciality, I thought.

Dream XX

I had been with a group of people riding around the ocean on a speedboat. Among our group was action star Vin Diesel.

We ran out of gas in a small inlet that was near a section of the beach where a number of families were having fun, windsurfing and flying kites and such. There were a couple of food stands, and a wooden foot bridge leading from the sandbar-and-inlet to the main island.

After waiting to be rescued and being ignored, all of us except Vin Diesel waded over to the shore and discussed how to get some gas for the boat. After we left, a large shark went into the inlet and prevented Mr. Diesel from leaving. The boat began sinking then, and within a matter of minutes, only the windshield and very upper part of the cabin were still above the water. We called out to Mr. Diesel to swim for shore, but he just smiled at us.

We wondered why it was so difficult for a rescue? Some of the others said that we were in a distant part of the beach, but I pointed toward the center of the island and noted that, within a half-mile, there was a Holiday Inn and a Best Buy, so obviously there was a city there. It was pointed out that a car wouldn't be able to drive over the footbridge, but it was further noted that a helicopter ought to be able to bring some gas to the boat, and rescue Mr. Diesel.

Some more kids with kites showed up, and they took it upon themselves to save the boat. They tossed their threads over the water and across the boat, and Vin Diesel grabbed them and held on.

As the kids pulled the boat in, the threads drifted toward me, and I grabbed them and helped pull the boat in; just then, however, the shark appeared, speeding in to attack; I grabbed a rifle and shot at it, hitting it twice. I'm pretty sure I didn't kill it, it just got discouraged and returned to the lagoon. Someone, later, said they saw it still circling in the inlet.

And the boat was hauled onto the sand. Mr. Diesel never lost his good humor during the entire incident.

Dream XIX

I was going to go swimming with my friend John and brother Mike.

We couldn't find Mike, so we went by ourselves. The pool was crowded at first, but we went in anyway and swam around.

Seeemlingly only a few moments later, the pool was deserted, except for myself. An overweight middle aged man showed up then, already dressed in trunks and placing his towells and such in one of the chairs. I decided that it was time to leave.

I got dressed except for my shoes, which were on a sort of platform going across the pool, like a diving board or plank, just barely on the surface. I thought to myself that it was dumb of me to get dressed without getting my shoes first. If I walked out on the plank, my weight would sink it enough into the pool so that my shoes would get wet, and I'd have wet socks, too, which would mean an uncomfortable walk back home.

There were other pairs of shoes around the pool that looked very similar to mine, but they were newer than mine. I tried on one pair, but they didn't fit right and I knew it was wrong to take them.

I asked the middle aged man, who was preparing to enter the pool, if he could get my shoes for me. He said he would, and he leapt into the pool with a tremendous splash and, thus, got them wetter than I would have had a strode out to them. He grabbed them, swam to the side of the pool and handed them to me.

I put them on, wet, and walked around until they dried. Later, I showed a well-known internet film reviewer some PDF files of two new animated characters, who were elongated heads with wide, toothsome mouths. They were mirror images, facing each other, and both of them had injured, bandaged necks. One of the characters was good and the other was evil.
