Dream XLVII

I was the manager of a restaurant. On a very busy Friday evening, I was off-duty, but I got a frantic call from the chief cashier—it seems the treat bucket, a bucket full of candy for the staff, was dangerously low.

I drove in to look, and saw that the treat bucket only had a red Tootsie Roll pop, a purple Tootsie Roll pop, and a somewhat flattened red pepper.

I agreed that this was a bad situation, and asked the chief cashier what we should do, since it was after ten o’clock and all the candy stores would be closed.

She pointed below the cashier stand, and said that we could pull some candy out from there. I looked, and there was another bucket filled with more red and purple Tootsie Roll pops.

I wondered why the cashier felt compelled to call me in when more candy was readily available, but I didn’t worry too much about it. I cheerfully took handfuls of the candy and filled up the treat bucket.

I took out the squashed red pepper and jokingly asked if anyone wanted it for a treat. There were a surprising number of staff who really wanted it, and in the end I had to slice it into sections so that everyone could have some.
