Dream LXVIII

I was one of about six powerful mutants, members of a secret group, who were meeting in Los Angeles to go over our plans. We were all large, tall people with a lot of muscles. I wasn't sure what our mutant abilities were, except that I was pretty sure one of us could become invisible. Actor Ron Perlman was one of us.

As I was walking over a dark expressway toward the meeting room, I saw a small jet fly overhead. I knew that one of our number was on board, because I got a mental picture of him sitting in his seat. He was wearing an enormous orange scarf.

The meeting room was a large, nearly empty space like a gymnasium or other school room. The floor, ceiling and walls were all made of blonde wood. When I got there, I must have been the first to arrive because I was alone. I decided to sit and wait for the others. I idly picked up a cello that had been left there and played it pizzicato style, because the bow seemed to be missing.

I thought I saw something in one corner of the room, near a stairwell, where most of the sunlight from outside was concentrating. That's probably the invisible person, I thought. I was pretty sure this particular mutant was supposed to be female. I smiled at the corner just to be safe, and went on playing the cello.

There was a code that we all knew that was supposed to signal the start of our operation. The code was very simple, just the numbers 5 - 5 - 5 - 4.

I knew we wouldn't have to wait for long.
