Dream XXVIII

I was on my way to visit someone with whom I had some urgent business to attend. He had not contacted me in some time, and our last communication had been cryptic enough that I was beginning to worry whether he could be trusted. I had a friend named Susan who was going to meet me there and help to mediate whatever differences the two of us might have.

I was driving along the street to his house when I ran into some very slow moving traffic. The cars inched along for some time. Fortunately, there was a side entrance to his house down a small access road, and as soon as I was clear, I drove quickly down that way.

I parked my car in the circular driveway next to what appeared to be a guesthouse, or garage, next to the main house. I left the car and walked into this secondary building.

It appeared to be one enormous room, filled with clothing hanging from a number of bars set into the ceiling. I walked cautiously among the garments, which turned this way and that as I brushed my way through them.

I turned to look toward the door, and just as I did so, a group of fur coats turned lazily toward me. Standing in front of the coats were five silver figures. At least, my brain said there were five. I was suddenly so frightened that I didn’t want to look at them, didn’t want to detail them, but I was unable to look away.

They were humanoids, slightly shorter than most people, and dressed in spacesuits with headpieces that left their faces visible. Their clothes and skin were shiny silver. Their eyes were a blank silver stare. And their mouths were set in a cruel snarl of contempt.

I knew that they were evil. I started screaming, knowing I shouldn’t but unable to help myself, and ran to the opposite end of the room. I ran through the door there, and into the main house, where Susan was waiting in the entrance foyer.

I could see that my hysteria had alarmed her. I quickly related what my encounter. She did her best to calm me down, and told me that she had been through most of the rest of the house and that it seemed completely deserted.

I found a small axe, and carried it around, my hands gripped convulsively around the handle. I was terrified, knowing that if I saw those creatures again, I would lose my sanity. I was already on edge and knew any small thing could turn me into a screaming wreck.

Susan and I went to the second floor of the house. While we looked down the main corridor, suddenly we were surrounded by people in evening dress, all leaving the hall. They didn’t seem to see us, and we couldn’t touch them; they seemed to move in and out of angles and reappear unexpectedly. We both thought that perhaps we were seeing some psychic remnant of an event that had occurred in the past.

Dream XXVII

I was working for Yoda in an office of some kind. We were heading into a rather slow period at work, and I wanted to have a day off.

I figured it would be more effective to ask in an impressive way, so I brought in a large creature costume. It was roughtly man-sized and man-shaped, consisting of a drab green humanoid wearing a knight's costume. I also rented a smoke machine (I knew that would cost extra) and set it up, so that when I asked for the day off, the eyes would light and smoke would come out of the mouth.

I asked Yoda if he could stop by my cubicle, and he said he would shortly. I stood next to the creature costume and activated all the various devices. As soon as he rounded the door, I said, "I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE FRIDAY OFF!" in a loud, stentorian bellow. At the words Friday off, the eyes flashed and smoke rolled impressively out of the mouth.

Yoda was utterly terrified. Realising I'd gone too far, I quickly explained the mechanism and he calmed down quite a bit, though he was still pretty shaken.

Grudgingly, he agreed that I could take Friday off.
