Dream CXCVI

I was sleeping in an annex off my mother's old house.  The bed was like a couch, and I'd set up my computer nearby.

Sometime during the night, I felt something crawling along me.  I couldn't open my eyes, but my hands searched frantically for what it might be.  I felt something small and furry, so I grabbed it.

I then tried to wake my computer up, so I could see what I had via the monitor's glow.  But the computer wouldn't wake up when I moved the mouse, neither would it when I hit the keyboard.  The the room remained dark.  I fumbled for a light switch, but that didn't work either, and I wondered if the power was out all over the house.

I stumbled down a short corridor toward the main house, and could see a glow coming from there, so I thought that just my power was out.  I opened the glass door separating the annex from the house and opened my hand.

I held a small white mouse.  It seemed a little worse for wear from my handling it, but it was otherwise okay.  I opened my hand fully and put it on the floor, and it crawled away under a cabinet.

Just then other members of the family showed up, wondering about the commotion.  I explained that my room was without power.

A few cats showed up then, and I wondered if the mouse was going to be safe with them around.  Then even more cats showed up, until the floor was crowded with them.
