Dream CLXVI

The family had invited me into town for a concert by The Residents.  We all drove to the venue, which was a gigantic theatre. We went to our seats and settled in.

The Residents appeared and sang one song, then left the stage.  The audience immediately went to the concession stand, my family among them.

I climbed over some seats to get to a nearer stand.  I passed the critic Abby Smith, who was reviewing the show live.

I returned to my seat to find that the family were really excited about the venue.  My father said he was thinking of changing his will so that all his money would go to its upkeep.  I scowled at that, but thought he wasn't serious.

The Residents appeared again, but they only waved from the stage and left for another intermission, during which commercials were played.

I was thinking this concert was something of a rip-off.  I was going to write my own review, so I headed off into the recesses of the theatre for a quiet area.  I passed Ms. Smith again, who was saying that the show embodied "social criticism."

As I went further into the building, I recognized that it used to be an old church.  There were pews and shelves to hold hymnbooks.  Someone was practicing on the old church organ, and technicians were hauling up large rubber tubes to try and fix the organ's acoustics.

One tube slid near me, and I noted that there was a knot in it.  I pointed this out to one of the techs, and he said something like "Thanks, we'll take care of it."
