Dream 239

I was in on the recording session for the very first LP vinyl record.  Erich Kunzel was conducting the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique.

Somehow, Mr. Kunzel suffered an injury at a point when the first movement was nearly complete.  Because of the primitive state of the recording equipment, the session could not be stopped; the musicians ceased to play, and the remainder of the recording was nothing but Mr. Kunzel crying and sobbing.

The session had been fully paid for and was due to be released to the public.  Because of the schedule and the contracts, the record had to be released as is.
