Dream LXIV

I was in an arts and crafts store that was going out of business. I decided to buy some canvases, as well as a few small odds and ends that were attractive for one reason or another. I selected my items and got ready to stand in the checkout line, which was very long.

The line moved quickly, though, and it wasn't too long before I was almost ready to be checked out. The person in front of me, one "David G." by his nametag, decided at the last minute that he couldn't wait, so he left the line.

Later, I was buying jazz CDs. In the store, some musicians who were going to accompany jazz pianist Paul Bley were discussing the weather. It was supposed to snow heavily, so they were going to cancel the gig, but the store owner insisted that Mr. Bley would play anyway, and that another musician--an oboist--was also determined to have the concert go forward. The other musicians were skeptical, though.

I woke up the next day looking forward to the concert--to see that snow had indeed fallen, making passage through the streets extremely difficult. I slowly made my way to the CD store, where the owner informed me that the concert had been cancelled after all.

Because I'd had such trouble driving to the store, I decided to drive back home by a different route. This route passed between a forest and a mountain range. I was a little afraid of getting stuck, but kept going anyway.

Just then, the sunlight broke through the clouds. The orange light highlighting the blue-tinged snow was so beautiful that I had to park the car, so I could take photographs.
