Dream XCVIII

I was returning a metal suitcase of Cabaret Voltaire CDs to the local library. I placed it on the receptionist's desk and she immediately knew what it was and who I was before I could say a word. "Oh, yes," she said, smiling as I was taking out my library card. I left as she began calling up programs on her computer.

Outside, the day was overcast and a bit chilly. As I was walking back home, I heard a loud meow. Looking around, I saw a cat trapped in a sort of recycling cage made of glass. The cat ran around, trying various weak spots without success.

I climbed up to get to the roof of the enclosure, and lifted it so that the cat could get out. But the cat found a door at the same time, pushed it open, and ran back down to the library. There, he latched himself onto the neck of a stray husky dog and the two of them started running at the geese that were gathering around. It was clear the two were friends and always collaborated in this way.

I noticed more cats and remembered that cats traditionally gathered around libraries, and this in turn tended to attract geese as well.

I saw a stray horse coming toward me, and I decided to be friendly and I walked toward it, hand outstretched. As it approached, I noticed it was gigantic in size--easily as big as an elephant. I worried about whether it could seriously hurt me, but just as I came close, it held out its front leg and I gently placed my hand against its front paw.

Paw, indeed. It turned out to be another cat, a smoky gray cat with thick fur, easily twice as tall as I.
